Daily Comic Journal: January 14, 2018: “Goodbye 704 Mourning Dove Road.”
I know it’s an inanimate object, just a building, but during those 16 years living in this home so much happened.
While living here:
• I changed jobs three times
• my father passed away
• I fell in love and had my heart broken
• my cat Oscar, of 17 years, passed away
• I was in a car accident and my 17 year old Honda del sol, was demolished beyond repair.
I find it a bit ironic that I’m now moving from the second place I lived the longest to the first.
I was just mentioning to my wife that our current house is now (or within a couple months as I don’t remember the exact time of my first move to a new house when I was ~2) the house in which I’ve lived the longest. She is from the same town I was, and many of my in-laws still reside in the area, so I can see the house where I spent the next longest amount of time a couple times a year.
I can relate with your feelings – I’ve had them several times when moving, even if I stayed a much shorter time. I think it’s life’s events and milestones that anchor us to a location – and the more time you’ve spent in the place, the more “anchors” you have.
Hope things are going well with your new job and location.
