Daily Comic Journal: February 14, 2022: “It’s Simple. You’ll Grow A Mustache.”
This film wasn’t a total waste of time. It looks great and has a fine cast. I also really enjoyed the background “origin” story surrounding that of Hercule Poirot, but I was never engaged in the murder mystery and lets face it. If you’re here to watch a movie about a murder mystery it should draw you into trying to solve that mystery and I never was.
I don’t agree (obviously, my mileage varies). People watch movies for a lot of different reasons (e.g., they like the actors or director, it’s a favorite story of theirs, they just want to go out). Not watching something because you know how it turns out means you’d never watch many historical movies, biographies, documentaries, or even reruns of TV shows you’ve previously seen. (By the way, no “i” in Gal Gadot.)
But I don’t say “People who watch movies” I say “Audiences for Murder Mysteries”. I’ve known people who LOVE reading Murder Mysteries and the big reason they do is they try to solve it as they read it. They don’t want to know the ending they want to try to guess who the murderer is. I LOVE historical films, biographies, etc… and will sometimes read a novel before seeing the film adaption (though sometimes that’s not a good idea, like when I read “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” before seeing the film.)
You’re right – I focused on a broader population. However, I still stand by my statement “People watch movies for a lot of different reasons.” as an attempt to resolve your “Audiences for murder mystery film adaptations can be a mystery to me.”
