Daily Comic Journal: August 26, 2017: “I’m Gelin Like Magellan.”
There’s something about my left leg…
In 2015 I wrote extensively about a knee injury (my left knee BTW) that hindered and hampered my running. Now this hell pain has popped up out of nowhere on my left foot’s heel, naturally.
I’m hoping this insole does the job. I don’t need an excuse not to run and exercise.
The problem is almost certainly plantar fasciitis – and it is extremely common with runners who take a little break and then try to come back full force, or who run sporadically. Gel insoles will likely make the problem worse, since for most people it’s not cushioning, but a combination of over-pronation, flexibility imbalances in the feet and lower legs, and things like worn out shoes or lack of arch support. Google is your friend for stretches and treatments, but as a sufferer, it can be really annoying and hard to control. Mine flares up easily if I have just taken 10-14 days off.
Also – a doc, particularly a podiatrist, will likely recommend a custom orthotic, but these are very expensive. I’ve had them, and actually had just as much relief with high quality arch support insoles with plastic or graphite cores. Stop by your local quality running specialty shop – they’ll have insoles and I’m sure some solid treatment advice.
I also think I’m overdue for a new pair of running shoes. I’m definitely going to do as much as I can to avoid anything “custom” & “expensive.
