Daily Comic Journal: August 15, 2021: “Bacon And Apples.”
Before anyone says anything, yes I’ve heard that you shouldn’t leave food out for wild animals, I know, I know. But you know what? I have so many wild animals that wander through my backyard, if I want to feed them, I will. If one day this leads to my untimely death at the paws or claws of these woodland creatures, well then, that’s on me.
As for the bacon fry, I’m sure its origins go back to the days when a family (usually farmers) used EVERY bit from animal, so nothing would be wasted by it’s death. By the way, yes, it’s very tasty and it brings back a lot of childhood memories too.
Many decades ago when some friends and I were throwing a HUGE party, we roasted a pig and a lamb on a rotating spit. The “head roaster” laid bread slices all along the bricks outlining the pit, so that the grease from the animals would drip on the bread. I don’t recall him giving it a specific name, and I’ve never experienced it since, but that bread was out-of-this-world DELICIOUS.
