Daily Comic Journal: August 12, 2020: “Ghosts In The Machine.”
Several years ago I drew a comic about missing people on the internet. You know, maybe there was a blog, or a website or a message board you’d bookmarked and would visit often. It was created by and was run by someone you probably never met or knew, before you’d stumbled across this site and like it. Then one day…
Voomp!
No more posts. You check back every day, then every other day, every week and every month and no more posts. No notes why, just silence. Do you ever winder that happened to them? Dd they grow bored of it and quit? Did they fall ill? Did they die?
Well, now I’m seeing something similar on Facebook, Twitter and in this comic, LinkedIn. Birthday or anniversary notifications about someone that you know is dead. The last thing most people who are deathly ill or their love ones think of, is closing down their social media presence. I wouldn’t be surprised if this not only continues, but grows more and more as we head deeper into the internet generation.
